Je
City Manag
eso,
98 —
Jacqui Diaz, Interim Assistant to the City Manager #00"
Kathy Omelas, Community Relations Representative:AP''
Subject: Exercise of 10-Year Lease Option by TCI Cable Television for City -Owned
Property at 2850 Marina Boulevard
Change of Control of Cable Television Services from TCI to AT&T
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
TCI Cablevision is exercising an extension of their lease of City property at 2850 Marina
Boulevard. They are also requesting consent for change of control of cable television services in
San Leandro from TCI to AT&T. Staff is recommending approval of both of these requests. A
resolution will be placed on the December 7, 1998 City Council agenda for the City Council's
consideration of these matters.
DISCUSSION
Extension of Lease at 2850 Marina Boulevard
As of December 11, 1998, the lease held by TCI for their facility on City property at 2850
Marina Boulevard expires. However, in the original lease executed in 1973, TCI (formerly LVO
Cable of San Leandro, Inc.) was granted two 10-year extensions. TCI has notified the City they
intend to exercise the first of those 10-year options.
Staff from various departments and the City Attorney met to explore possible options for use of
that property. The outcome of staff discussions determined that there are no immediate plans for
projects in the area which would benefit from use of this property. In addition, there would be
considerable expense involved in relocating TCI from this site.
41
