p
City of San Leandro
Community Development
835 East 14 th Street
San Leandro, California 94577
DEC 17, 1996
Attention: Steve Emslie & Joanne Oliver
RE: Meeting to discuss a compromise'of Oct 7 City Council
decision to alter access between the St. Moritz Apartment
Complex and Harold Ave.
Dear Steve & Joanne,
Thank you for your continued unbiased support of our ongoing
dispute between the St. Moritz Apt. Complex and the Residents
of Harold Ave, Martell Ct., Bradrick Ave. and the Washington
Manor Convalescent Hospital.
We would also like to thank Councilman Julian Polvorosa and
Assistant City Manager John Jermanis for attending this
meeting and for their positive input for resolution.
It is obvious that the Property Owners present at this
meeting were not willing to compromise their future by
accepting Mr. Sullivan's proposal.
Mr. Sullivan's proposal did not address the majority of the
problems that were discussed at the council meeting. If the
pedestrian gate is left open between the hours of 5:00 A.M.
and 10:00 P.M., we still have the following problems that
have hindered this neighborhood for twenty years:
A. PARKING
B. GARBAGE
C. LOITERING
D. DRUG DEALING
E. GENERAL NUISANCE AFFECTING OUR QUALITY OF LIFE.
After meeting with a group of the residents and Mrs. Cannon,
Administrator of the Washington Manor Convalescent Hospital,
one thing was clearly evident and unanimous. Everyone was
very discouraged and disappointed that after all the years of
doing everything by the book; going through all the proper
channels, and finally getting positive backing by our City
Council, we are back to square one. This will be the fourth
time this same issue has gone before the City Council.
Because of the vote in favor of the small property owners,
now Mr. Sullivan wants to negotiate, when previous mediation
was unsuccessful because of Mr. Sullivan's unwillingness to
compromise.
MKI
