VISION STATEMENTS <br />`1 TI 114 IIIQ CI <br />The San Leandro City Council has identified schools as a high priority and supports quality <br />schools where the students and community as a whole benefit from collaboration among the <br />San Leandro and San Lorenzo Unified School Districts and private schools; where there is <br />coordination between facilities, academics and programs; where School -To -Work programs <br />are supporTed; where there is cooperation between the City, businesses and the schools; and <br />where parks and recreational opportunities are closely linked with use of school facilities. <br />The Council acknowledges that schools are highly valued and an important and integral part <br />of the community, and, in the spirit of cooperation, the City Council stands ready to serve <br />as facilitator in the process in coordinating efforts between the City and school districts <br />which benefit the community and improve the quality of education for our children. <br />THEME: A SENSE OF COMMUNITY <br />The San Leandro City Council celebrates the unique "town" atmosphere and strong sense of <br />community pride in San Leandro and desires to enhance this feeling of community by <br />celebratinz our collective history, re-creating a central gathering place, and supporting <br />strong neighborhoods. <br />• NEIGHBORHOODS - The San Leandro City Council desires and supports strong, safe, <br />clean, parklike neighborhoods where an integrated relationship exists between <br />neighborhoods and the schools; and where children play, families shop, and <br />celebrations abound. <br />• DOWNTOWN - The San Leandro City Council tee- is -committed to enhancing the <br />Downtown as a gathering place by providing opportunities for shopping and dining, <br />access to public transportation and plentiful parking; and by promoting pedestrian use, <br />and creek and watershed awareness; East 14th Street is acknowledged as a main artery <br />within the City. The Council supports projects such as undergrounding utilities, <br />improved lighting and facade improvements as part of an overall effort to enhance the <br />appearance of the Downtown. <br />
