San Leandro Council Member Handbook | 20212022 <br />52 | Page <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />HANDICAPPED ACCESS APPEALS BOARD <br />Description of Board Duties: <br />The Board shall: <br /> <br />a) Receive appeals and conduct hearings thereon under the provisions of §19957.5 of <br />California Health and Safety Code relating to the enforcement of the building access <br />requirement of Part 5.5 of the Code and the granting of exceptions to such building <br />access requirements authorized by §19957 thereof. <br /> <br />b) Make recommendations to the City Council from time to time concerning the <br />provision of access to public accommodations and facilities by physically handicapped <br />persons constructed within the City of San Leandro. <br /> <br />c) Other functions which may be designated by resolution or motion of the Council. <br /> <br />MEMBERSHIP: <br /> <br />Two (2) members of the Board shall be physically handicapped persons. For purposes of this <br />subsection physically handicapped means any person who (i) has a physical impairment which <br />substantially limits one or more of such person’s major life activities, (ii) has a record of such an <br />impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having such an impairment. <br /> <br />Two (2) members of the Board shall be persons experienced in building and construction. <br />One (1) member of the Board shall be a representative of the general public. <br />MEETING SCHEDULE: <br />Meetings are held on an as-needed basis. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
