Since 1986, the San Leandro Shelter has offered shelter and supportive <br />services designed to assist residents access health and housing resources. There are 30 beds at <br />this shelter for women and children. <br />▪ Sister Me Home. Sister Me Home is a safe house that provides shelter and support services for <br />persons experiencing homeless and/or fleeing domestic violence. <br />▪ San Leandro Seasonal Shelter Program. The San Leandro Warming Shelter is a collaborative <br />effort between Building Futures, Alameda County, the City of San Leandro and April Showers <br />volunteers. The Program provides temporary shelter for persons experiencing homelessness. <br />Outreach staff assist guests of the program access medical, housing, financial and food aid <br />resources. <br />▪ San Leandro Homeless Compact. Formed in 2016, the San Leandro Homeless Compact is <br />comprised of the City of San Leandro partnered with Building Futures and the Rental Housing <br />Association of Southern Alameda County. Through collaboration with local government, non- <br />profit organizations and landlords, the San Leandro Homeless Compact aims to assist persons <br />experiencing chronic homelessness access long-term housing and support services. The compact <br />provides housing units for chronically homeless individuals in San Leandro. Case workers are <br />assigned to compact participants to assist in coordinating health and social services and prepare <br />participants for success and independence. The Compact is funded by a combination of City and <br />County funding and HUD vouchers. <br />Additionally, the City’s Recreation and Human Services and Community Development Departments <br />presented a short-term and long-term homeless navigation center/housing plan to the City Council <br />in February 2021. The City is currently pursuing the purchase of a motel to provide interim <br />services/shelter and longer term permanent supportive housing for people experiencing <br />homelessness. <br />Table 2.22 provides an overview of homeless assistance providers located in San Leandro and <br />Alameda County.
