CITY OF SAN LEANDRO STAFF REPORT DATE: November 12, 1996 TO: Wandzia Grycz, Interim City Manager FROM: June Catalano, Director of Development Se ices APPROVED AND FORWARDED To CrrY COUNCIL BY: Debbie Potter, Redevelopment Administrator L( ** Nanci Klein, Economic Development Coordinator SUBJECT: Appointment of the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Project Survey Area Advisory Committee as Recommended by the Nominating Committee SUMMARY AND RECONMIENDATION On August 5, 1996, Mayor Ellen Corbett appointed a nominating committee consisting of the Mayor and Councilmembers Garry Loeffler and Joanne Lothrop to nominate advisory committee members for the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Project Survey Area. Based on extensive research and expressed interest by the nominees, the nominating committee is recommending approval of the attached list of project survey area advisory committee members. BACKGROUND The Nominating Committee met with staff on two occasions to discuss potential advisory committee members. Potential nominees were evaluated based on geographical representation within the survey areas, professional affiliations, minority representation, and expressed willingness to participate. With direction from the Nominating Committee, staff developed a list of potential nominees and directly contacted them to discuss their interest. DISCUSSION The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to provide guidance to Redevelopment Agency staff in revitalizing the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard area. In doing so, Agency staff can apply the principles of redevelopment as an economic development tool to eliminate blight and stimulate commercial and residential activity. The nominee list consists of members of the business community located within the survey area, along with nominees who provide services to the survey area and residents who live adjacent to the survey area. The proposed members represent a diverse group of individuals who would be able to provide feedback on the needs and priorities of the business and residential community within the survey area. 145
