f% <br />IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO.96 - 55 (2108 ) <br />A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SAN LEANDRO <br />UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S DRUG, ALCOHOL, AND TOBACCO <br />EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE AS SAN LEANDRO'S <br />SUPPRESSION OF DRUG ABUSE IN SCHOOLS <br />LOCAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />WHEREAS, drug abuse and gang activity problems continue to be critical issues of concern <br />in San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, continued law enforcement, drug education and prevention programs at schools, <br />direct interventions with at -risk youth and their families, and diversion programs for first-time <br />offenders lead to decreasing the existing drug use and gang activity problems in San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) curriculum and School Resource <br />Police Officers within San Leandro schools, and counseling programs through San Leandro <br />Community Counseling continue to be effective methods of addressing these problems; and <br />WHEREAS, the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning (O.C.J.P.) has grant funds <br />available to provide funding for these programs, and grant funding is dependent upon <br />establishment of a Suppression of Drug Abuse in Schools Local Advisory Committee; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Unified School District has such an advisory committee in <br />place, which is the Drug, Alcohol, Tobacco Education (D.A.T.E.) Advisory Committee, which <br />provides the important elements needed in the Local Advisory Committee, and the D.A.T.E. <br />Committee has agreed to serve as San Leandro's Local Advisory Committee. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br />follows: <br />The San Leandro Unified School District Drug, Alcohol, Tobacco Education Advisory <br />Committee is hereby recognized as San Leandro's Suppression of Drug Abuse in Schools Local <br />Advisory Committee. <br />
