IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 96 - 155 (1841) <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS, <br />SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUND (AB3229) <br />(Provides an increase of $166,488 in the D.A.R.E. Officer and School <br />Resource Officer Programs) <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department desires to undertake the expansion of <br />the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program and the School Resource Officer Program, which <br />will be funded from monies available under the State of California's Supplemental Law <br />Enforcement Services Fund (AB3229); <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department recognizes the expansion of grammar <br />school grades kindergarten through third grades due to the recent State -imposed class size limit of <br />twenty students per class; <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department's present structure of the Drug Abuse <br />Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program would be unable to cover these additional classes, <br />while recognizing the need, <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department has seen a standing need for the <br />application of the School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) at the middle school grade areas; <br />WHEREAS, the City and the San Leandro Police Department embrace the continuing <br />need for on -site Police presence in our schools and recognize that presence as a future investment <br />in our community's children; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Chief of Police of the City of San Leandro is <br />authorized, on its behalf, to request these funds from the Supplemental Law Enforcement <br />Oversight Committee of Alameda County. <br />IT IS AGREED that funding continuation of these Programs is assured by this resolution, <br />to the extent consistent with the City's Charter, Ordinances, and Rules and Regulations and that <br />the City has established the Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br />follows: That said participation is hereby approved and authorized. <br />
