IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO RESOLUTION NO. 96 - 155 (1841) RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS, SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUND (AB3229) (Provides an increase of $166,488 in the D.A.R.E. Officer and School Resource Officer Programs) WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department desires to undertake the expansion of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program and the School Resource Officer Program, which will be funded from monies available under the State of California's Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (AB3229); WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department recognizes the expansion of grammar school grades kindergarten through third grades due to the recent State -imposed class size limit of twenty students per class; WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department's present structure of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program would be unable to cover these additional classes, while recognizing the need, WHEREAS, the San Leandro Police Department has seen a standing need for the application of the School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) at the middle school grade areas; WHEREAS, the City and the San Leandro Police Department embrace the continuing need for on -site Police presence in our schools and recognize that presence as a future investment in our community's children; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Chief of Police of the City of San Leandro is authorized, on its behalf, to request these funds from the Supplemental Law Enforcement Oversight Committee of Alameda County. IT IS AGREED that funding continuation of these Programs is assured by this resolution, to the extent consistent with the City's Charter, Ordinances, and Rules and Regulations and that the City has established the Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: That said participation is hereby approved and authorized.
