City of San Leandro
Civic Center, 835 E. 14th Street
San Leandro, California 94577
Office of the City Manager 510-577-3351
FAX 510-577-3340
November 12, 1999
Mary D. Nichols
Secretary of Resources
Resources Agency
1416 Ninth Street, Suite 1311
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Ms. Nichols:
The City of San Leandro is very pleased to submit a grant proposal for $226,041
under the Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program. The proposed
project is an Urban Forestry Project and will consist of planting approximately 652
trees throughout the City. The related transportation facility is the widening of
Interstate 880 through San Leandro. The tree planting will offset the vehicular
emissions of carbon dioxide from the freeway and will significantly enhance the
quality of life for San Leandro residents.
The proposed project represents a collaborative effort between two public agencies,
the City of San Leandro and the San Lorenzo Unified School District. Trees will be
planted on arterial and neighborhood streets, as well as on school and park sites.
Additionally, the City will be working with the school district to coordinate a public
education and community tree -planting program. The local commitment to the
project is represented by a matching contribution of $48,705 in budgeted funds, in -
kind services, and volunteer labor. This amount signifies an 18 percent local
contribution to the total project cost.
The enclosed grant proposal contains all of the required submittals except for the
authorizing resolution from the City Council. This resolution will be forwarded to
you within 30 days.
