IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-33 (2047/ 1934 ) <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO SUPPORTING THE CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE <br />MANAGEMENT BOARD'S APPLICATION TO THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION <br />AGENCY'S 1998 JOBS FOR RECYCLING INITIATIVE TO ESTABLISH A MODEL FOR <br />REGIONAL MARKETS FOR RECYCLABLES <br />WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has a grant program entitled <br />the 1998 Jobs Through Recycling Grant Initiative that will grant money to entities for the purpose of <br />fostering recycling/reuse businesses that increase the use of recyclable or reusable materials and <br />contribute to economic development and job creation; and <br />WHEREAS, the California Integrated Waste Management Board has applied for one of these <br />grants to promote the fostering of recycling/reuse businesses that increase the use of recyclable or <br />reusable materials and contribute to economic development and job creation in the San Leandro area; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro supports the project that is being developed as it will <br />assist businesses and the economic development of the San Leandro area; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro makes a commitment of support and will provide in -kind <br />services for this project in the amount of $25,000; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of San Leandro currently provides the kind of assistance the application <br />is requesting in terms of customer service, meeting with prospective businesses, helping to identify sites <br />appropriate for these types of recycling businesses, and helping businesses with the discretionary <br />review process for those uses that would require use permits or planned developments. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Leandro <br />authorizes the letter of support for the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Application <br />to the US Environmental Protection Agency's 1998 Jobs for Recycling Initiative to Establish a Model <br />for Regional Markets for Recyclables. The City of San Leandro is authorized to commit $25,000 of <br />in -kind staff services to assist appropriate recycling businesses through existing Development Services <br />and Economic Development staff. <br />
