`4 <br />IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 97 - 126 (1270 ) <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE PORT OF OAKLAND WORK WITH <br />THE CITY OF OAKLAND AND THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO TO CREATE A <br />HIGH -QUALITY ENTRANCE TO THE OAKLAND AIRPORT BY INCLUDING <br />STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS AT THE AIRPORT ENTRANCE IN AIRPORT <br />EXPANSION PLANS AND THE AIRPORT ROADWAY PROJECT <br />RECITALS <br />WHEREAS, the City of Oakland, the City of San Leandro, and the Port of Oakland share <br />a boundary entrance to the Oakland Airport, at the intersection of Doolittle Drive and Airport <br />Drive, as well as along Hegenberger Road and 98th Avenue; and <br />WHEREAS, the airport entrance area constitutes one of the most important gateways to <br />Oakland, San Leandro, and the entire East Bay, since it establishes an image of the region for all <br />visitors arriving to the East Bay by air, and <br />WHEREAS, the Oakland Airport entrance area currently presents a negative image of the <br />region with very little landscaping, lacks a common design theme, and has inadequate signage to <br />welcome visitors and direct them to local or regional destinations; and <br />WHEREAS,. these conditions are contrary to all efforts to promote investment and attract <br />business and jobs to the region; and <br />WHEREAS, the Port of Oakland is currently working on an expansion project which <br />includes a major modification to the airport entrance; and <br />WHEREAS, the Port and the City of Oakland are beginning work on a study of street <br />improvements and economic development projects along Hegenberger Road; and <br />
