SITUATIONAL AWARENESS <br />Examine your surroundings — stay across the street from the <br />poles. Look up, Look down, Look all the way around. <br />• When you are assessing the hazard, look for wire ends, leaning <br />poles, and sagging lines <br />• Power lines can be brought down due to storms, trees, <br />mechanical failures, pole damage, etc. <br />• Poles can be damaged by vehicles, storms, trees, and/or old age <br />• Remember that the wire does not have to be arcing or sparking <br />to be energized. If the power line is arcing, the power line could <br />break and fall to the ground <br />• You should always treat any downed line as energized; there is <br />no reliable indicator that a power line is energized <br />
