Embers Way Right -of -Way 2 October 31, 2000
to the Citv. This will expedite the process. Upon transfer, the City would have to
maintain the road, as it will become part of the City of San Leandro street
network.
Concurrently. Parcel Map 7677 is recommended for approval to subdivide a
vacant parcel at the southwest corner of Lewelling Boulevard and Embers Way
into two parcels. The City Council, on November 15, 1999, approved PD-99-2 to
allow a 120-room hotel and a 150,000 square foot self -storage facility on the
resulting two parcels. The developer has applied for a building permit to begin
construction after the approval of Parcel Map 7677.
CALTRANS currently requires the developer to improve Embers Way to
CALTRANS standards, which are more stringent than the City's. The developer
finds CALTRANS current requirements impossible to meet, but has indicated that
it can meet the City's standards. To facilitate the development of the parcel and
attain control of the required improvements on Embers Way the City has initiated
with the State the relinquishment of the portions of Embers Way from the State
right-of-way. Not receiving the relinquishment from the State would effectively
prevent the development of the parcels.
Current Citv Council Policv
Not Applicable
Previous Citv Council Action(s)
• On November 15, 1999, the City Council approved PD-99-2 at 524-526
Lewelling Boulevard to allow a 120-room hotel and a 150,000 square foot
self -storage facility on a vacant parcel at the southwest comer of Lewelling
Boulevard and Embers Way.
City Council Committee Review and Action
Not Applicable
Applicable General Plan Policv
Not Applicable
Permits and/or Variances Granted
Not :applicable
Environmental Review
Not Applicable
`1%(c
