EJ-1 <br />EJ <br />OVERVIEW <br />This chapter addresses the state-mandated requirements of the Planning <br />for Healthy Communities Act (Senate Bill 1000). Senate Bill 1000 was <br />established in 2016 to address the role of environmental justice in local and <br />regional planning practice. California law defines “environmental justice” <br />as the fair treatment of people of all races, cultures, and incomes with <br />respect to the development, adoption, implementation, and enforcement <br />of environmental laws, regulations, and policies (Government Code <br />Section 65040.12, subd. (e)). <br />The City of San Leandro is committed to promoting environmental justice. <br />The Environmental Justice Element contains a comprehensive set of goals, <br />policies, and actions aimed at equitably improving the environmental <br />health of the community and those most harmed by pollution burdens. <br />The Environmental Justice Element contains references to existing policies <br />and actions as well as new policies and actions to advance Environmental <br />Justice goals. <br />The State of California (California Government Code Section 65302(h)) <br />requires environmental justice elements to include policies and objectives <br />that promote community improvements across the following topics areas: <br />Pollution Exposure and Air Quality <br />Public Facilities <br />Safe and Sanitary Homes <br />Physical Activity and Public Health <br />Food Access <br />Civic and Community Engagement ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE Attachment A
