City of San Leandro
Civic Center, 835 E.14th Street
San Leandro, California 94577
September 6, 1973 415-638-4100
'i
Alameda County Planning Commission
399 Elmhurst Street
Hayward, California 94544
Attention: Mr. William H. Fraley, Planning Director
Gentlemen:
Subject: Grant Avenue Development
The City of San Leandro appreciates being advised that the Alameda
County Planning Commission is undertaking a study of land use and
traffic circulation in the area tributary to the westerly end of
Grant Avenue in San Lorenzo. We agree that the development of a
plan that balances the pressures for development of property de-
pending on Grant Avenue for access with the pressures for improve-
ment of the adverse traffic impact on Grant Avenue itself should be
accomplished promptly.
San Leandro has always been receptive to the concerns of the
homeowners in the Grant Avenue area. The extension of Doolittle
Drive to Grant Avenue was removed from our General Plan during the
struggle against the Shoreline Freeway at the urging of some of
these homeowners. Now that pressures for reinstatement of this
extension are being felt, San Leandro has supported both a full
analysis of the impact of such an extension and the early acquisi-
tion of a strip of land to protect the extension, should the study
ultimately show it to be desirable.
- Continued -
Jack D. Maltester, Mayor
City Council: Alvin W. Kant, Vice Mayor; Joseph J. Coppa;
Valance Gill ; Albert J. Nahm; Mario Polvorosa;
William F. Suerstedt. Wesley McClure, City Manager
