<br />NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCULATE
<br />A PETITION FOR ANNEXATION TO THE
<br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO.

<br />NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCU-
<br />LATE A PEMTION FOR ANNEXA-
<br />TION TO THE CITY OF SAN
<br />LEANDRO.
<br />Notice is hereby given that the un-
<br />dersigned intend to and will circulate
<br />a petition within that district herein-
<br />after described for the purposes of
<br />annexing said district, which lies with-
<br />in the unincorporated territory of the
<br />County of Alameda, to the City of San
<br />Leandro.
<br />Said petition will be circulated
<br />within said district after the expira-
<br />tion of twenty-one days from the date
<br />of publication hereof.
<br />The district in which said petition
<br />will be circulated and which is pro-
<br />posed to be annexed to the City of San
<br />Leandro is described as follows:
<br />All that certain property lying and
<br />being within the boundaries of that
<br />certain map entitled: "Map No. 532"
<br />filed in the office of the County Re-
<br />corder of the County of Alameda on
<br />the 20th day of June, 1938 in book 29
<br />of Maps, pages 12 and 13, save and
<br />except therefrom Lot 9 in Block 2, as
<br />said lot and block are delineated and
<br />so designated on the above entitled
<br />map, which district is more commonly
<br />known and designated as Leland
<br />Heights, Eden Township, Alameda
<br />County, California.
<br />That the reasons for the proposed
<br />petition are that said annexation will
<br />be for the best interest, welfare, pub-
<br />lic health and safety of the persons
<br />owning or purchasing property and
<br />residing within said district and that
<br />said residents of said district, as a
<br />public safety measure, will be bene-
<br />fited by police and fire protection, traf-
<br />fic control and sanitary regulations,
<br />including sewage and garbage disposal,
<br />and will be further benefited by a
<br />possible reduction in fire insurance
<br />rates and public utility rates.

<br />J. C. LANEY, of said County, being duly sworn, deposes and says:
<br />That he is and was during all the times herein mentioned, a white
<br />male citizen of the United States, over the age of 21 years and neither a
<br />party to nor in any way interested in the matter or action herein set forth,
<br />and is and was competent to be a witness in said matter or action;
<br />That he is now and at all times herein mentioned was the principal
<br />clerk of THE INTER -CITY EXPRESS PUBLISHING COMPANY, a
<br />corporation, the printers and publishers of THE INTER -CITY EXPRESS.
<br />which is and was at all times herein mentioned a newspaper of general cir-
<br />culation printed and published daily except Sundays and legal holidays in
<br />the City of Oakland, Township of Oakland, County of Alameda, State of
<br />California, and as such principal clerk has now and at all of said times had
<br />charge of all legal notices and advertisements in said newspaper; that said
<br />THE INTER -CITY EXPRESS is now and was at all times herein men-
<br />tioned a newspaper of general circulation as that term is defined by Section
<br />4460 of the Political Code, and as provided by said Section, is and at all
<br />:)f said times was published for the dissemination of local and telegraphic
<br />news and intelligence of a general character, having a bona fide subscription
<br />list of paying subscribers, and is not and at none of said times was devoted
<br />to the interests' or published for the entertainment or instruction of a par-
<br />ticular class, profession, trade, calling, race or denomination, or for any
<br />number of such classes, professions, trades, callings, races or denominations;
<br />that at all of said times said newspaper has been established, printed and
<br />published at regular intervals in said City, Township, County and State,
<br />for more than one year preceding the date of the first publication of the
<br />notice herein mentioned; that said notice was set in type not smaller than
<br />nonpareil, and was preceded with words printed in black -face type not
<br />smaller than nonpareil, describing and expressing in general terms the pur-
<br />port and character of the notice intended to be given.
<br />Thatthe Notice of Intention to Circulate a
<br />Petition for Annexation to the City of
<br />San Leandro
<br />of which the annexed is a printed copy, was published in said news-
<br />paper onetime, to -wit: on the 15th day of April,
<br />1939.
