City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: December 19, 2022 <br />Agenda Number: 13.c. <br />Agenda Section: ACTION ITEMS <br />File Number: 22-728 <br />File Type: Resolution - Council <br />Adopt a Resolution Honoring Council Member Corina Lopez <br />RESOLUTION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2022- <br />HONORING COUNCIL MEMBER CORINA LOPEZ AND PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGING HER TWO <br />TERMS ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND NUMEROUS PUBLIC SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Corina Lopez grew up in a migrant farm-working family in the Salinas Valley, <br />attended the Head Start program as a child, and eventually became the first member of her immediate family to <br />go to college, attending Princeton University; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez is a successful businesswoman with over 25 years of academic, <br />professional, and practical experience in finance, including a career on Wall Street as an equity analyst; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Lopez began her service to San Leandro as a park and neighborhood advocate, then as a City of <br />San Leandro Human Services Commissioner, followed by service as a Trustee for the San Leandro Unified <br />School District; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Corina Lopez was first elected to the San Leandro City Council as part of the <br />November 2014 election and commenced her service as a member of the City Council in January 2015; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS upon taking office, Council Member Lopez distinguished herself by becoming the first Latinx <br />member of the City Council in San Leandro’s history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during her time on the City Council, she served in various leadership capacities on various regional <br />bodies including service as Chair of the East Bay Community Energy Board, and served on the Alameda <br />County Fire Advisory Commission for 8 years; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez served on the City Council Facilities & Transportation Committee as well <br />as the Finance Committee, where she championed numerous important causes, including significant <br />improvements to San Leandro’s parks and infrastructure, identifying new funding sources for important <br />community projects, and bolstering the sustainability of City finances; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, her other distinctions include receiving the 2022 National League of Cities Women in Municipal <br />Government Leadership Award, Assembly Member Rob Bonta’s 2017 Equity Champion Award, and the City of <br />San Leandro Proclamation of ‘Corina Lopez Day’ in 2013; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez also distinguished herself at the national level by serving in various <br />leadership roles for the National League of Cities, including three years of service on its Board of Directors, <br />along with service on its Hispanic Elected Local Officials Constituency Group, and Information Technology and <br />Federal Advocacy Committee; and <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 12/14/2022
