IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2023- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO TO <br />APPROVE EMPLOYEE COST-SHARING UNDER GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION <br />20516 BY UNREPRESENTED EXECUTIVE SAFETY EMPLOYEES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement <br />System (CalPERS) for retirement benefits on behalf of its represented and unrepresented <br />employees; safety executive employees are not represented by a bargaining group; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, California Government Code Section 20516 permits public agency employers, to <br />enter into agreement with their employees to share the employer cost of retirement benefits; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on April 3, 2023, the City Council adopted Resolution 2023-xx approving <br />unrepresented executive safety employees to participate in employee cost sharing for Classic <br />Safety and PEPRA Safety members; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CalPERS requires that the City Council adopt a resolution that specifically identifies <br />the following information for unrepresented executive safety employees in order to initiate the <br />process for the City to amend its CalPERS contract to provide for Section 20516 Cost Sharing as <br />follows: <br />a) Effective as soon as administratively feasibly, the employee cost share will be one <br />percent (1%) towards the employer’s contribution rate. <br />b) Effective July 1, 2024, the employee cost share of an additional 0.5% one-half <br />percent for a total of one and a half percent (1.5%) percent towards the employer’s <br />contribution rate. <br />c) Effective July 1, 2025, the employee cost share of an additional 0.5% one-half <br />percent for a total of two percent (2%) percent towards the employer’s pension <br />contribution rate. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br />follows: <br /> <br />The City Council approves this resolution to initiate the employee CalPERS contract amendment <br />under Government Code Section 20516 for Classic Safety and PEPRA Safety employees, who are <br />unrepresented by a bargaining unit. <br /> <br />Introduced by _______ and passed and adopted this XXth day of XXXX 2023, by the following <br />vote: <br /> <br />Members of the Council: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />
