Agenda Section: RECOGNITIONS File Number: 23-089 File Type: Presentation April 30 - May 6, 2023 as Small Business Week Proclamation WHEREAS, National Small Business Week is a significant moment in the year to salute our small businesses for the countless contributions to our community; and WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro recognizes and values the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses within our community; and WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and keep our community, the state and America’s economies growing strong; and WHEREAS, when we support small business, jobs are created and local communities are able to preserve their unique culture; and WHEREAS, because this country’s 28 million small businesses create nearly two out of three jobs in America’s economy, we cannot resolve ourselves to create jobs and spur economic growth in America without discussing ways to support the entrepreneurs; and WHEREAS, there are more than 2,500 small businesses in the City of San Leandro employing 25 or fewer people, many of them minority- and women-owned; and WHEREAS, the majority of businesses most severely impacted by the economic fallout of COVID-19 are small businesses; and WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro and the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce support and join in the national effort to help America’s small businesses grow their business, create jobs, and ensure that the community remains as vibrant tomorrow as it is today. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan González III, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim April 30 - May 6, 2023, as “SMALL BUSINESS WEEK” in the City of San Leandro.
