City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: June 20, 2023 <br />Agenda Number: 3.b. <br />Agenda Section: RECOGNITIONS <br />File Number: 23-299 <br />File Type: Presentation <br />June 25 - July 1, 2023, as National Week of the Boys and Girls Club <br />WHEREAS, the first Boys and Girls Club of America opened in Hartford, Connecticut in 1860, with character <br />development at the cornerstone of the experience; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys Club was established in 1947 at St. Leander Church and changed to the Boys <br />and Girls Club in 1991; and <br />WHEREAS, the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to inspire youth to achieve their full potential in a safe, <br />positive and engaging environment, irrespective of race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, <br />ability, socio-economic status, and religion; and <br />WHEREAS, the vision of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to ensure that success is within the reach of every <br />participant, with all members on track to graduate from high school, and that each has a plan for the future, <br />demonstrates good character and citizenship, and lives a healthy lifestyle; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club currently employs over 50 employees, serves over 2,500 youth <br />annually, and collaborates with others in our city, as a true community partner; and <br />WHEREAS, June 25-July 1 is recognized as the week-long national celebration of the Boys and Girls Club. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan González III, Mayor of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim <br />June 25 - July 1, 2023, as National Week of the Boys and Girls Club in San Leandro, in recognition of the tremendously <br />positive impact the club has on our community. <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and <br />caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be affixed this <br />20th day of June 2023. <br />____________________________________ <br />Juan González III, Mayor <br />City of San Leandro <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 6/14/2023
