302 Deadhead Flowers <br />(a)Remove any spent blossoms or dead flower stocks as required to present a neat clean <br />appearance after blooming period. Deadhead within 30 days of last bloom. <br />303 Clearance pruning for visibility: Overgrowth <br />(a)Prune shrubs along sidewalks and streets to provide adequate traffic line of sight and <br />eliminate pedestrian hazards at all times. <br />(b)The Parks Supervisor may make specific requests for various shrub pruning practices <br />throughout each site, such as maximum heights. Once established in a given area, these <br />pruning practices shall thereafter become the st andard practice. <br />(c)Shrubs shall not block access to controllers or electric valves and shall be pruned to <br />minimize blockage of irrigation head spray patterns. <br />(d)Groundcovers such as ivy, ice plant, gazania, etc., shall be off the curb lines, kept off <br />pedestrian walkways and out of drainage ditches, kept out of interplanted shrubs and <br />trees, trimmed to keep all signs, poles, guardrails, and utility meters clear, an d kept from <br />encroaching in any way into private property or onto private property fences. <br />(e)Ivy shall also be trimmed off BART support towers to the height of the surrounding <br />ground cover. Ivy falling from walls is the Contractor’s responsibility to remove and <br />should be addressed within 48 hours of notification by the City. Ivy should not be <br />allowed to grow thicker than 6 inches from the wall to which it is attached. <br />(f)Grasses, weeds, sucker growth, or any other growth shall be removed from groundcover <br />to maintain a neat and clean appearance. <br />(g)In addition to maintenance described elsewhere in these specifications, ivy on Springlake <br />Drive, Davis Street, Fremont Avenue and Halcyon Drive shall be allowed to grow to <br />within 6 inches of the top of the wall. Once at this height, ivy shall not be trimmed below <br />18 inches from the wall top nor allowed to grow past 6 inches from the top of the wall. <br />The depth of the ivy growing out from the wall shall be kept trimmed such that the <br />incidence of the weight causing the ivy to separate from the wall is minimized. All ivy <br />shall be trimmed to a crisp, clean appearance.
