Title <br />The First Reading of an Ordinance Establishing Compensation of Councilmembers and an <br />Ordinance Establishing Compensation of the Mayor <br /> <br />..Staffreport <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS. <br /> <br />At City Council direction, staff has prepared an ordinance increasing the compensation for <br />Councilmembers from $1,323 to $1,900 per month. This will also result in an increase to the <br />Mayor’s base compensation from $2,646 to $3,800. If approved the increase will take effect on <br />January 1, 2025. <br /> <br />The City Council recommends that the City Council adopt an ordinance establishing <br />compensation of councilmembers and an ordinance establishing compensation of the mayor. <br /> <br />Discussion and Analysis <br /> <br />At the November 20, 2023 City Council meeting, the City Council received a presentation <br />comparing their compensation to the compensation of other local Cities. The current monthly <br />salary for City Councilmembers is $1,323 and $2,646 for the Mayor. The last increase was 5% <br />and it became operative on January 1, 2023. Following discussion, the Council directed staff to <br />prepare an ordinance increasing the monthly salary from $1,323 to $1,900, with the change to <br />become effective on January 1, 2025. <br /> <br />Table 1 illustrates the cost impact of the salary increase. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impacts <br /> <br />The Fiscal Year 2025, January through June 2025, budget increase for Councilmember <br />compensation is $20,772 and $6,924 for the Mayor’s compensation.
