1 IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO RESOLUTION NO. 2024-XXX RESOLUTION TO AFFIRM THE CITY COUNCIL’S ACTION ON FEBRUARY 27, 2024 TO APPOINT SBEYDEH VIVEROS-WALTON TO FILL THE DISTRICT 1 VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL WHEREAS, Having been duly elected on November 8, 2022, District 1 Council Member Celina Reynes tendered her resignation from the City Council effective December 31, 2023; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 250 of the Charter of the City of San Leandro, a vacancy in the office of Council Member or Mayor shall be filled by appointment by the Council within sixty days after its existence; and WHEREAS, the appointee shall hold office until the next general municipal election and until a successor is elected and qualified, and any unexpired remainder of the term of such office shall be filled by the voters at such election; and WHEREAS, on January 2, 2024, the City Council declared its intention to fill the District 1 Council vacancy by appointment, approved the process and timeline for filling the vacancy, and directed staff to provide public notice of the vacancy and application process; and WHEREAS, eighteen applications were submitted by members of the public, of which fifteen were eligible for consideration for the vacancy; and WHEREAS, an Ad Hoc committee, comprised of Mayor Gonzalez, and Councilmembers Aguilar and Bowen reviewed the application packets and selected six applicants to be interviewed by Council; and WHEREAS, on February 13, 2024, Council interviewed the applicants and discussed nominations; and WHEREAS, on February 27, 2024, Council continued discussion of nominations and unanimously voted to appoint Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton to fill the District 1 vacancy on the Council. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: That it affirms the action the Council took on February 27, 2024 to appoint Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton to the City Council to fill the District 1 vacancy caused by the resignation of Celina Reynes, to a term expiring December 31, 2024, and until a successor is elected and qualified.
