Species <br />California brown pelican <br />Pelecanus occidentalis <br />californicus <br />Western snowy plover <br />Charadrius alexandrines <br />nivosus <br />Status <br />(Federal/State) <br />Delisted/ <br />Delisted, SFP <br />FT/SSC <br />Habitat <br />Open marine waters with abundant <br />small schooling fish populations, <br />nests on islands lacking terrestrial <br />predators, roosts on isolated <br />islands, rocks, breakwaters, and <br />docks. <br />Sandy beaches, salt pond levees <br />and shores of large alkali lakes. <br />Need sandy, gravelly or friable soils <br />for nesting. <br />LSA <br />Potential for Occurrencea <br />Could forage in open water habitat within <br />the project site; does not breed in Alameda <br />County, but post breeding adults and young <br />birds disperse north from the Channel <br />Islands in southern California (the closest <br />breeding area) and are most abundant in <br />the County from July through late October. <br />However, within the project area, there may <br />be small numbers of non -breeding <br />individuals present all year. Species <br />observed at the Oakland International <br />Airport and Oyster Bay (eBird 2020). <br />No suitable breeding habitat present along <br />the tidal slough. Not likely to nest in the <br />basin due to limited suitable habitat and <br />long period in which the basin is inundated <br />with water. Could briefly fly through or <br />forage at the project site. Closest breeding <br />occurrence is a 1979 record approximately <br />0.3 mile from the site at Bay Farm Island <br />(CDFW 2020). Species observed at the <br />Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline in January <br />1984 (eBird 2020). Species has been <br />recorded at the Oakland International <br />Airport (Bloom, pers. comm.). <br />California least tern <br />FE/SE, SFP <br />Coastal waters, sandy beaches, <br />No suitable breeding habitat present. Could <br />Sterna antillarum browni <br />alkali flats, and hard -pan surfaces <br />briefly fly through or forage over the open <br />(salt ponds). <br />water in the slough. Closest CNDDB <br />occurrence is approximately 2.5 miles from <br />the site at the Oakland Airport.
