IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2024-091 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT FOR $2,975,302 FROM <br />THE UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR SAN LEANDRO’S TREATMENT <br />WETLAND FOR POLLUTION REDUCTION, HABITAT ENHANCEMENT, AND SHORELINE RESILIENCY <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro’s Water Pollution Control Plant plans to repurpose an <br />underutilized 6.9-acre wastewater retention pond on site into a multi-benefit treatment wetland; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Treatment Wetland project is to remove nitrogen and other <br />contaminants from a portion of the Water Pollution Control Plant’s discharge water; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency established the San Francisco <br />Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund (SFBWQIF) in 2008 to promote restoring streams, wetlands, and <br />water quality; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 5, 2024, the City of San Leandro was awarded a grant in the amount of <br />$2,975,302 from the SFBWQIF of the United States Environmental Protection Agency; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed project that will be partially funded by this grant will aid in contaminant <br />removal and habitat improvement. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: <br /> <br />That the City Council accepts and the City Manager is authorized to execute all documents related <br />to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) grant award of $2,975,302 in funding from the <br />USEPA for the project. <br /> <br />Introduced by Councilmember Ballew and passed and adopted this 15th day of July 2024 by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers Aguilar, Azevedo, Ballew, Bowen, Viveros-Walton, <br />and Mayor González (6) <br /> <br />NOES: None (0) <br /> <br />ABSENT: Vice Mayor Simon (1) <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST: _______________________________ <br /> Kelly B.
