Description: This Rock River rifle has a 16” barrel and is an AR-15 platform. As per Lexipol policy 306, it is equipped with a dedicated lighting system, an approved sighting system as well as mounted backup front and rear sights. The rifle also is equipped with a collapsible/adjustable stock. The rifle is chambered in .223 rifle. j. Capabilities: Ability to be fired from shoulder level, having a long spirally grooved barrel intended to make bullets spin and thereby have greater accuracy over a long distance. j. Quantity: 1 j. Expected Life Span: 5-15 years j. Purpose: In accordance with SLPD Policies 300 and 306, rifles are to be used as precision weapons to address a threat which require increased accuracy and/or to reach threats which are at a greater distance than a handgun can possibly proficiently address, if present and feasible. This weapons system is also designed to ballistically address threats which could be protected by body armor, preventing a handgun from being able to address proficiently or effectively. j. Authorized Use: Only members that are POST certified and have received training specific to the use of patrol rifles during the course of their duties are authorized to use carry and/or use the patrol rifle in accordance with SLPD Policies 300 and 306. j.
