Community Forest Ethos <br />Key Themes Align with Tree Master Plan Goals <br />In pursuit of red ressing tree canopy inequities, t his T ree Master P lan is centered in "Commun ity Forestry Eth os," <br />a concept suggested in the 2022 paper, Not by Trees Alone: Centering Commun ity in Urban Forestry <br />Community Forestry Ethos centers "the needs, capacities, and priorities of historically margi n alized <br />communities at the heart of the work of creating more just sustai n able cities" (Campbell e t a l., 2022). It is <br />intended to prioritize BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and frontline commu n ities who are <br />disproportionately impacted by cl imate change and unjust pol icies. <br />The three key themes of Community Forestry Ethos guided the developme n t of the Tree Master Plan's goa l <br />areas: people, performance, and plann i ng, wh i ch are carried through to t h e key performance i n dicators and <br />implementation framework. <br />9 <br />PEOPLE <br />COMMUNITY FOREST ETHOS: Supporting human capacity and care <br />(investmen t s in people and organizations) <br />TMP GOAL: Foster a cu lture of inclusive tree stewardship th rough <br />robust education, partnerships, and capacity-build i ng opportu n ities <br />that empower all commun ity members t o buil d tree equit y <br />PERFORMANCE <br />COMMUNITY FOREST ETHOS: Re-envisi oning th e functions of the <br />urban forest (productive systems a n d biocultural approaches) <br />TMP GOAL: Measure and track the perfor mance of San Leandra's <br />urban forest i n a n effort increase the quality and quantity of t rees, the <br />benefits provided by trees, and the resources dedicated t o tree <br />management. <br />PLANNING <br />COMMUNITY FOREST ETHOS: Community organizi ng beyond the <br />green silo (intersectional a nd cross-sect oral approaches) <br />TMP GOAL: Develop and implement plans, policies, and p rocedures <br />that reflect the community's priori t ies, are d r iven by data, and <br />proactively tackle issues facing trees in San Lea ndro. <br />SA N LEA NDRO TREE tvlAST ER P LAN
