IN THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION N0.2009-057 (1123) <br />RESOLUTION URGING THE EDEN TOWNSHIP HEALTHCARE DISTRICT, THE EDEN- <br />SUTTERBOARD, AND THE ALAMEDA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO <br />MAINTAIN SAN LEANDRO HOSPITAL AS AN ACUTE CARE FACILITY WITH <br />EMERGENCY ROOM SERVICES <br />WHEREAS, accessible emergency room services are essential for the health and safety of <br />those who live and work in San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, maintaining San Leandro Hospital as an acute care facility provides needed <br />beds and services for Alameda County's current and future residents; and <br />WHEREAS, San Leandro Hospital can be seismically upgraded in a very cost effective <br />manner; and <br />WHEREAS, closure of the San Leandro Hospital's Emergency Room will exacerbate <br />overcrowding, long waits and triage at the Eden Medical Center's Emergency Room and other East <br />Bay hospitals; and <br />WHEREAS, San Leandro Hospital and Medical Center is one of the City's largest <br />employers, providing good jobs for San Leandrans and area residents; and <br />WHEREAS, Eden Township Healthcare District, San Leandro Hospital and Eden Medical <br />Center must be maintained as an integrated, non-profit healthcare provider delivering top level <br />acute and emergency care to all District residents. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE to urge <br />the Eden Township Healthcare District, the Eden-Sutter Board, and the Alameda County Board of <br />Supervisors to maintain San Leandro Hospital as an acute care facility with emergency room <br />services. <br />Introduced by Councilmember Prola and passed and adopted this 27th day of April, 2009, by <br />the following called vote: <br />
