City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: December 19, 2022 <br />Agenda Number: 13.b. <br />Agenda Section: ACTION ITEMS <br />File Number: 22-727 <br />File Type: Staff Report <br />Adopt a Resolution Honoring Council Member Deborah Cox <br />RESOLUTION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2022- <br />RESOLUTION HONORING COUNCIL MEMBER DEBORAH COX AND PUBLICLY <br />ACKNOWLEDGING HER TWO TERMS ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND NUMEROUS PUBLIC <br />SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Deborah Cox was born and raised in Newton, Iowa; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Cox moved to San Leandro’s District 1 in 1997 with her husband and then 18-month <br />old son, who is now a proud graduate of local San Leandro public schools; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Cox was a founder of the San Leandro Educational Foundation in 2008 and was <br />Co-Chair for the Yes on Measure A school district parcel tax campaign; <br />WHEREAS, she continued her service to the schools as Co-Chair of the Measure B $109 million school bond <br />campaign that was passed by the San Leandro voters in 2006; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Cox was elected to the City Council in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, serving as Vice <br />Mayor in 2018; and <br />WHEREAS, during her time on the City Council, she championed numerous important causes for the community, <br />including the development of new affordable housing, the revitalization of the downtown area in partnership with the San <br />Leandro Improvement Association, and the installation of public art; and <br />WHEREAS, when not serving on the City Council, she has also served the broader East Bay region through her public <br />service as the Chief of Staff for State Assembly Member Bill Quirk. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf <br />of the entire City Council, hereby recognize and honor Council Member Deborah Cox. The City of San Leandro further <br />invites all members of the San Leandro community to utilize this recognition as an opportunity to reflect on Council <br />Member Cox’s influence, helpful demeanor, flexibility, knowledge, and advocacy for the San Leandro community. <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 12/14/2022
