<br />IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2006-006 <br /> <br />(2648) <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO REQUESTING THAT THE <br />GOVERNOR PROCLAIM A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND REQUEST A <br />PRESIDENTIAL DECLARATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council found that due to the recent series of winter storms <br />characterized by heavy rains, floodwaters, high winds, wave action and surge tides; a condition <br />of extreme peril to life and property did exist in the City of San Leandro; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with State law and Title 3, Section 3-4-124 of the San <br />Leandro Municipal Code, the Director of Emergency Services declared the existence of a local <br />emergency in San Leandro on January 5, 2006; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said declaration by the Director of Emergency Services was ratified by the <br />City Council on January 9,2006; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has now been found that local resources are unable to cope with the <br />effects of said emergency. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO, <br />CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that a copy of this resolution be forwarded through <br />the State Director of the Office of Emergency Services to the Governor of California with the <br />request that he proclaim the City of San Leandro to be in a state of emergency; and further that <br />the Governor request a Presidential Declaration. <br /> <br />Introduced by Councilmember Starosciak and passed and adopted this 9th day of January, <br />2006, by the following vote: <br /> <br />Members of the Council: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers Badger, Grant, Nardine, Santos, Starosciak; Mayor Young (6) <br /> <br />NOES: None (0) <br /> <br />ABSENT: Counci1member Stephens (1) <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />Marian Handa, City Clerk <br /> <br />
