Staff recommends approval of the
attached resolution that authorizes the agreement for the funding.

BACKGROUND

Analvsis
The properties located at 326-340 MacArthur Boulevard encompass approximately 27,000
square feet ofland along MacArthur Boulevard. The cross street is Westbay Avenue. Currently,
a hair salon and a single family home occupy a portion of the site, along with approximately
19,500 square feet of vacant land on the comer of MacArthur and Westbay. During the last 50
years, the properties located at 326-340 MacArthur Boulevard have been used for a number of
purposes, including a gas station from the 1950's until the late 1970's, a drycleaner during the
1980's, and other short-lived commerciaVretail uses for approximately the last 20 years.
Because of these many uses, specifically the gas station and drycleaners, there has been
speculation that the site may be contaminated in some way. However, at this point, no
appropriate environmental studies andlor assessments have been completed to ultimately prove
or disprove the existence andlor extent of the contamination, if any.
