Report from Recreation and Human Services Department Regarding Plans for the 2009 Cherry Festival Micki Cronin gave an overview of the preparations for the 2009 Cherry Festival, which is also the 100th Anniversary of the Festival. A 100 yr. planning committee has been meeting monthly since last year's Festival to plan for special recognition of the Festival's anniversary. Attached promotional materials list the special events this year, including a Cherry City Faire, a Vintage Fashion Show and Afternoon Tea, a San Leandro Heritage Faire, and a Passport to San Leandro History, which is a walking tour of historic locations in the general vicinity of the Festival The day of the Festival there will be a recreation of a 1909 procession and pageant. There will also be a 2009 commemorative poster and a reproduction of a 1090 Festival poster for sale. Private sponsors are being solicited to help with the costs of the event. Committee members made suggestions to staff for possible additional sponsors and for advertising around the community. 2. Discussion Regarding Committee Chair Consensus was reached to retain Mayor Santos as the Committee Chair. Meetings will continue to be scheduled as needed, although the Committee asked that they meet again in April to get an update on the Cherry Festival plans.
