Report from Recreation and Human Services Department Regarding Plans for the 2009 <br />Cherry Festival <br />Micki Cronin gave an overview of the preparations for the 2009 Cherry Festival, which is <br />also the 100th Anniversary of the Festival. A 100 yr. planning committee has been meeting <br />monthly since last year's Festival to plan for special recognition of the Festival's anniversary. <br />Attached promotional materials list the special events this year, including a Cherry City <br />Faire, a Vintage Fashion Show and Afternoon Tea, a San Leandro Heritage Faire, and a <br />Passport to San Leandro History, which is a walking tour of historic locations in the general <br />vicinity of the Festival The day of the Festival there will be a recreation of a 1909 procession <br />and pageant. There will also be a 2009 commemorative poster and a reproduction of a 1090 <br />Festival poster for sale. Private sponsors are being solicited to help with the costs of the <br />event. <br />Committee members made suggestions to staff for possible additional sponsors and for <br />advertising around the community. <br />2. Discussion Regarding Committee Chair <br />Consensus was reached to retain Mayor Santos as the Committee Chair. Meetings will <br />continue to be scheduled as needed, although the Committee asked that they meet again in <br />April to get an update on the Cherry Festival plans. <br />
