CITY AND SAN LEANDRO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT LIAISON COMMITTEE <br />May 21, 2009 <br />4:00 - 5:30 p.m. <br />Jefferson Elementary School <br />14300 Bancroft Avenue <br />San Leandro, California <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />Committee Members: Mayor Tony Santos, Councilmember Ursula Reed, Councilmember <br />Michael Gregory, District Board Chair Michael Katz-Lacabe, Board <br />Member Morgan Mack-Rose, Board Member Carmen Sullivan <br />City Staff Present: City Manager Steve Hollister, Recreation and Human Services Director <br />Carolyn Knudtson, Public Works Director Mike Bakaldin, Administrative <br />Specialist Mary Foster <br />SLUSD Staff Present: Superintendent Christine Lim, Assistant Superintendent Song Chin- <br />Bendib, Director of Bond and Measure B Projects Michael Murphy, <br />Communications Outreach Specialist Robin Michel, Administrative <br />Assistant Linda Pollard <br />The meeting was called to order by at 4:04 p.m, by District Board Chair Katz-Lacabe. <br />L Update on Waste Disposal Garbage Contract <br />City Manager Hollister introduced Public Works Director Bakaldin to explain the status of <br />negotiations with Alameda County Industries (ACI) and the City in the possibility of free <br />garbage service for San Leandro schools within the ACI franchise area. He stated that City staff <br />will continue negotiating with Alameda County Industries (ACI) next week, and will want to <br />meet with District staff to agree on the best solid waste and recycling program for the District. <br />City Manager Hollister stated that- this new agreement, if approved by the City Council in July, <br />will begin September 1 for the new school year. <br />Councilmember Reed stated that the new arrangement is a good idea. Board Member Mack- <br />Rose complimented City staff for negotiating so well with Alameda County Industries (ACI). <br />Councilmember Gregory stated that it is good public relations for the City, District and ACI. <br />Board Chair Katz-Lacabe initiated a discussion on the City's goal for landfill diversion. <br />
