The City operates a sidewalk repair program,
described in Title 8 of the San Leandro Administrative Code, which provides for the repair of
sidewalk damage. Minor defects are ground or patched at no (direct) charge to property owners.
Larger defects that require removal and replacement of the concrete are also repaired under the
program but the property owner adjacent to such a defect must reimburse the City for the full
construction cost unless a street tree is the cause of damage. Property owners are only
responsible to pay for '/~ the construction cost for damage caused by a street tree.
Analysis
The City awards a construction contract for the sidewalk repair program yearly. This contract is
estimated to cost $290,000 and anticipated to replace 1,200 linear feet of curb and gutter, and
11,000 square feet of sidewalk. This contract is smaller than last year's because wheelchair
