IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2002-13 (112 3 ) <br />RESOLUTION DENOUNCING RACISM, BIGOTRY AND HATRED IN SAN LEANDRO <br />AND ENCOURAGING INCLUSIVENESS, TOLERANCE AND DIVERSITY <br />WHEREAS, judging people by their appearance, skin color, physical characteristics, <br />religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender, age, or sexual preference are contrary to our most fundamental <br />principles; <br />WHEREAS, racism, bigotry and hatred undermine and destroy our unity as a people and <br />lead to social unrest and alienation; and <br />WHEREAS, the city of San Leandro, the state of California, and the United States of <br />America were all founded and settled by people of diverse cultures, religious practices, beliefs and <br />nationalities; and <br />WHEREAS, our community and our nation continue to welcome and be enriched by people <br />of all faiths, backgrounds, ethnicities, physical abilities and lifestyles. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the San Leandro City Council does resolve as follows: <br />That we denounce and have no tolerance for acts of racism, bigotry or hatred. <br />That acts of racism, bigotry or hatred will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. <br />That we as a city embrace and celebrate the diversity of all people in this community. <br />Introduced by Council Member Grant and passed and adopted this 22"d day of <br />January, 2002, by the following called vote: <br />Members of the Council: <br />AYES: Council Members Badger, Glaze, Grant, Loeffler, Nardine, Santos ( 6 ) <br />NOES: None ( 0 ) <br />ABSENT: Mayor Young ( 1 ) <br />q .~ <br />ATTEST: -~~ ~ ~.~ '~ 3~ >~ ~4', <br />Gayle Pet rsen, City Clerk <br />t.~ <br />
