Hollister, City Manager
FROM: Uchenna Udemezue, Directo
Engineering and Transportation epartment
BY: Kenneth Joseph, P. E., City En~ineer
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
~~~~.
Stephen L. Hollister
City Manager
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE WORK FOR WICKS BOULEVARD SIDEWALK
PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 09-144-36-287.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends acceptance of the work, filing of the Notice of Completion, and upon
completion to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the one-year maintenance period, hereby
authorizes the City Manager to release the Maintenance Bond for the subject project.
BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS
On the easterly side of Wicks Boulevard between Stenzel Park and Burkhart Avenue, the gravel
path had become overgrown with ivy. This path is often used as a pedestrian walkway when
large events are held at the Marina Community Center or Stenzel Park. Wicks Boulevard, at the
Marina Community Center, was identified as a key location in both our Pedestrian Project list in
the Pedestrian and Bike Master Plan as well as the Sidewalk Gap Program.
The project constructed approximately 1,100 feet of sidewalk between Stenzel Park and Burkhart
Avenue along Wicks Boulevard. About 294 feet of retaining wall was also installed at heights
varying from 1 foot to 1.75 feet. The width of the sidewalk is American with Disabilities Act
(ADA) compliant and varies from 4.5 feet to 5 feet, depending on whether a retaining wall is
present in that location. A total of four new ADA ramps were also installed within the project
limits.
Construction and punch list work was completed by FBD Vanguard Construction on January 15,
2010. Due to a conflict with an underground PG&E electrical conduit, one remaining street light
and a small section of sidewalk remains to be done. As soon as PG&E performs the work, the
City will complete the project under a separate contract and the temporary asphalt will be
removed.
