CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE: May 17, 2010
TO: Stephen L. Hollister, City
FROM: Uchenna Udemezue,
Engineering and Tray
BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engineet
Engineering and Transportation Department
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
y ~~
Stephen L. Hollister
City Manager
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INCLUSION OF CITY STREETS IN 2010
PROPOSITION 1B (PROP 1B) FUND REQUEST.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
As part of the funding application for Proposition 1B (Prop 1B) funds the State requires City
Council approval of the streets selected for improvement using Prop 1B funds.
Staff recommends approval of portions of Marina Boulevard, Astor Drive, and Sybil Avenue for
inclusion in the list of streets to be improved using Prop 1 B funds.
BACKGROUND
In November 2006, the voters authorized $19.9 billion in general obligation bonds to fund state
and local transportation improvement projects to relieve congestion, improve movement of
goods and enhance safety and security of the transportation system. Since the passage of Prop
1B, these bonds have funded various street improvement projects. In 2008, the City of San
Leandro received about $1.3 million from Prop 1 B funds.
Analysis
In Spring 2010, the State asked the City to apply for 2009-10 Prop 1B funds. It is estimated that
the City will receive $1,211,101. The application requires that the streets to be improved with
these funds be authorized by Council. Based on the current Pavement Condition Index, the
following street sections were selected for improvement: Marina Boulevard between Doolittle
Drive and Neptune Drive; Astor Drive between Chabot Road and View Drive; and Sybil Avenue
between East 14th Street and Bancroft Avenue.
