a 4 <br /> IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 96 -011 (2603/1413) <br /> AN ORDINANCE ADDING ARTICLE 3 TO CHAPTER 14 <br /> OF TITLE IV OF THE SAN LEANDRO MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> ESTABLISHING A REQUIREMENT FOR TRIGGER LOCKS <br /> TO BE PROVIDED AT THE POINT OF SALE <br /> FOR ALL FIREARMS SOLD IN THE <br /> • <br /> CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> • Recitals <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that gun violence is an increasing threat to <br /> our society and residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that many firearms which are initially <br /> purchased legally are later obtained and used by unauthorized persons; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that tragic consequences have resulted <br /> when children gain access to guns which are stored at their homes without safety <br /> devices; and <br /> WHEREAS, trigger locks and other safety devices can prevent tragic accidents <br /> as well as the unlawful use of firearms; and <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance is intended to protect the public health, safety and <br /> welfare. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does <br /> ORDAIN as follows: <br /> Section I. The San Leandro Municipal Code, Article 3 to Chapter 14 <br /> of Title IV, is added to read as follows: <br /> "ARTICLE 3. REQUIREMENT THAT FIREARMS DEALERS SELL OR <br /> PROVIDE TRIGGER LOCKS OR SIMILAR SAFETY <br /> DEVICES FOR EACH FIREARM SOLD, LEASED, OR <br /> TRANSFERRED; POSTED NOTICE. <br />
