• • <br /> • <br /> City Council Airport Committee <br /> October 2, 2001 Meeting Highlights <br /> • <br /> Committee Members: Shelia Young, Surlene Grant, Tony Santos <br /> Called to order at 1:35 p.m. (Member Young arrived at 1:45 p.m.) <br /> 18 audience members present <br /> Report from city Attorney regarding Delay of Oakland Airport Development Plan <br /> • City Attorney Liane Randolph reported that the Airport Development Plan (ADP) <br /> hold until the Port determines whether or not it will file a motion with the trial court <br /> to allow certain elements of the ADP to move forward. Therefore, progress on <br /> implementation of the terms of the City's settlement agreement with the Port also <br /> continue to remain on hold. <br /> Report from Port of Oakland regarding Participation of the San Leandro Community in <br /> the Port's Good Neighbor Program during the Runway Rehabilitation Project <br /> • Port of Oakland staff gave a presentation on outreach efforts to the community before <br /> . and during the runway rehabilitation project. <br /> • 712 discount airfare certificates were distributed to 246 households. <br /> • The Family Days program distributed 8,465 individual and 289 family passes to local <br /> attractions. <br /> • 12 residents inquired about the health care program. None chose to participate. <br /> • 132 complaints were received during the six -day project, 41 were from San Leandro. <br /> • The Committee members and audience had discussions regarding recent noise <br /> activities since the repaving project, and on -going air traffic noise problems related to <br /> air traffic and hush- kitted aircraft. It was suggested that the Good Neighbor program <br /> should be continued. <br /> • The audience was encouraged to attend meetings of the Oakland Airport/Community <br /> Noise Management Forum to pursue solutions to noise disturbances and changes to <br /> airport and FAA policies as a group. <br /> • Committee Member Young asked that a mailing list be created to notify audience <br /> members of the next committee meeting and Noise Management Forum meeting. <br /> Discussion regarding the Noise Management Forum Work Plan <br /> • Items 6 and 7 of the Noise Management Forum's work plan were discussed. These <br /> items relate to future concepts of establishing a home purchase program for the <br /> Timothy Drive neighborhood in San Leandro and establishment of a redevelopment <br /> program for converting residential zones into commercial zones in areas southeast of <br /> the airport. <br /> • Consensus was reached to make the recommendation that these two items be retained <br /> on the Forum's work plan as "long term" items. <br />
