CALL TO ORDER
2. . PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
3. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos;
Mayor Karp
ABSENT: None
4. PRESENTATIONS
None Scheduled.
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
A. Carmen Janjowski and Susan McCall , Social Workers at Chabot Dialysis
Clinic, said they were disturbed because they had been told by Nancy
Hillis, Coordinator of the Paratransit Program, that no new riders
would be accepted into the Paratransit Program because of a budget
crisis. They said they have elderly patients who depend on paratransit
to transport them to their life-saving dialysis treatments. They said
Ms. Hillis had informed them that no new riders would be accepted.
Dennis Smith, Director of the Recreation-Human Resources Department,
said this occurs occasionally. He said the Paratransit Program must
constantly balance available TDA and Measure B Funds against the number
of riders who wish to participate in the Program. He said this is not
due to a budget crisis. He said the City has received its budget
allocation and should be able to get through the year to June 1992.
Mr. Smith further said the City actually gives dialysis patients more
rides and he said the Program will be opened up for new riders as soon
as the funds even out.
Mayor Karp suggested that Mr. Smith meet with Ms. Janjowski and Ms.
McCall and try to develop a solution for the dialysis patients.
Council Member Perry requested a status report on the Paratransit
contract.
