MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> MARCH 23, 1992 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in an adjourned session in the <br /> City Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 7:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Mayor Karp discussed the Partnerships in Education program. He said <br /> the City, the San Leandro Unified School District, and businesses and <br /> industry' in San Leandro have rolled up their sleeves and gotten <br /> involved in education. He said San Leandro joined this very successful <br /> program on June 12, 1990, and displayed a banner which was presented to <br /> the City commemorating its membership. <br /> 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> A. Richard Soffield, asked why the selection process for City Manager had <br /> been conducted in Closed Session and why the salary was so high. Mayor <br /> Karp explained the selection process, beginning with a nation-wide <br /> search. He said more than 80 candidates applied for the position and, <br /> because this is a personnel matter, discussions are conducted in Closed <br /> Session. <br /> Council Member Corbett said part of the process requires <br /> confidentiality for the applicants. Mayor Karp said the salary and <br /> benefits have been decreased substantially since the position of City <br /> Manager became vacant and noted that Mr. Oliver has been in the <br /> position of Acting City Manager without an Assistant City Manager. <br /> Council Member Glaze said the salary is equitable and is more in line <br /> with department head and other salaries. <br /> 6. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> None <br />
