CALL TO ORDER
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
3. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa;
Mayor Karp
ABSENT: Council Member Kerr
4. PRESENTATIONS
None
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
A. Kathy Peluso, 20539 Marshall Street, Castro Valley, spoke for In
Defense of Animals. She asked why the squirrel control program was
handled the way it was. She said she saw signs saying the City would
be spraying for fleas at the Par Course, but the City was actually
carrying out the poisoning. She said -no one seems to know why it was
done in this way and asked how it can be stopped from happening again
in the future. She said people are upset about the poisoning. She
also said there are a number of wild cats under the Blue Dolphin, and
she feeds them and has found homes for 49 out of 60. She said she was
concerned she would be cited if she continues to feed them.
Mayor Karp suggested that Ms. Peluso talk to Kathy Ornelas or Dr. Katz
with her suggestions for controlling the squirrel problem. He said the
City will be working together with In Defense of Animals to determine
solutions for the future.
B. Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, thanked Mayor Karp and the City
Council for their participation in the First Alzheimer's Memory Walk,
which was held on Saturday, October 3rd. He said the Walk was very
successful , and it was estimated there were between 600 and 700
participants. He said, as of the evening before the Walk, $18,000 cash
had already been received. He thanked the City for allowing the Walk
to take place and said he hopes it will be done again next year.
Mayor Karp commended Pam and Rick Richards for putting together this
fundraiser and also thanked all of the companies who donated food,
drinks, and door prizes.
