MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> FEBRUARY 19, 1991 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> A. Whitey Harder, 91 Broadmoor Boulevard, said he and his wife are deeply <br /> disturbed by events in the Persian Gulf and concerned about the troops <br /> involved in the war. He said he and his wife had put up a number of <br /> yellow ribbons and flags in their neighborhood and would like to put up <br /> more of them on East 14th Street from Broadmoor Boulevard to City Hall . <br /> Mayor Karp noted that Don Lee of San Leandro Electric is willing to cut <br /> and donate 5' poles for flags provided by Mr. Harder. The Mayor noted <br /> that brackets were available from a firm in Santa Clara and could be <br /> obtained in about one week, and the City would work with Mr. Harder to <br /> have the flags installed. Mr. Harder asked that the costs for the work <br /> be reviewed because they seemed high to him. <br /> B. Kent Myers, 14180 Santiago Road, noted that a guest at a dance had <br /> recently suffered cardiac arrest. Mr. Myers said that the use of a <br /> defibrillator saved his life and commended the City for purchasing the <br /> defibrillator equipment and commended the Fire Department staff. <br /> Fire Chief Jim Cole noted that the defibrillator equipment has been used <br /> many times, but this was the first occasion in which it could be <br /> documented that use of the equipment saved a life. <br /> 5. NEW BUSINESS <br /> A. Presentation of an Award for Valor by the California State Fire Marshal <br /> Association to J. M. "Buzz" Dare, Conductor; Harvey Thibauex, Brakeman; <br /> Jim Blankenship, Brakeman; and Bob Meuser, Engineer; of Southern Pacific <br /> Railroad; and Presentation of Commendations by Mayor Karp. <br />
