San Leandro, California, August 6, 1990 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. The meeting <br /> was opened with the pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country, Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the meeting of July 16, 1990 were approved as amended. <br /> PRESENTATIONS <br /> a. Presentation of Plaque to the 1990 Cherry Festival Co-Chairs, John and Marie <br /> Lothrop. Mayor Karp presented a plaque to Mr. and Mrs. Lothrop. He said <br /> they were extremely hard workers and noted that the success of the Cherry <br /> Festival had taken six months of preparation and organization on the <br /> Lothrop's part, and he thanked them on behalf of the City Council and <br /> citizens of San Leandro. <br /> Mr. and Mrs. Lothrop thanked the City Council and also expressed their <br /> appreciation to Jacqui Watson, Recreation Supervisor, for her assistance. <br /> b. Presentation of Check for $5,000 from the City of San Leandro to Marie <br /> Lothrop, Past President, for the California Conservatory Theater. Mayor Karp <br /> presented the check for $5,000 to Marie Lothrop. Mrs. Lothrop introduced <br /> Martin Fredricks, the new California Conservatory Theater President. <br /> He thanked the City Council for their support and noted that the season would <br /> be opening on October 11 with "Driving Miss Daisy. " He also mentioned the <br /> August 17 Spaghetti Feed, which would be held to raise funds for the Theater. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> a. Letter from C. C. Zimmerman Regarding Fairmont Ridge. Mr. Zimmerman's letter <br /> was referred to the Planning and Building Department. <br /> b. Letter from Edwin J. Suchman, Requesting Council to Send a Letter to Alameda <br /> County Board of Supervisors, Regarding the Impact County Budget Cuts Will <br /> Have on the City of San Leandro. <br /> - Draft Letter of Response <br /> The City Clerk read Mr. Suchman's letter. The City Council expressed concern <br /> that Alameda County budget cuts were not limited only to the area of criminal <br /> justice and enforcement. They said they were also concerned regarding the <br /> impact on health, welfare, services for the aging, and many other social <br /> programs. The City Council also noted that the State was abdicating its <br /> responsibilities to cities and counties. <br />
