,if
IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
RESOLUTION NO. 98- 3 (1057/1123)
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROPOSAL TO
REROUTE ALAMEDA COUNTY (AC) TRANSIT ROUTES
FROM WEST JUANA BETWEEN EAST 14TH STREET AND HAYS STREET
WHERAS, the City of San Leandro is working to improve the pedestrian safety and connectivity of
the Washington Plaza to the Pelton Center, to provide additional on -street parking on W. Juana
between E. 14th Street and Hays Street; and,
WHEREAS, over 400 transit vehicles per day travel along W. Juana between E. 14th Street and Hays
Street; and,
WHEREAS, it is very difficult for all southbound transit vehicles to make a legal and safe turn from
E. 14th Street onto W. Juana; and,
WHEREAS, the high number of transit vehicles traveling along W. Juana reduces the quality of life in
the downtown area and creates a barrier between the Pelton Center and Washington Plaza; and,
WHEREAS, many of the patrons of the transit lines jaywalk across W. Juana compromising the safety
of the street; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed plan to provide additional on -street parking in the median of W. Juana will
make it difficult for transit vehicles to travel along W. Juana; and,
WHEREAS, the Dowtown Business Association believes that the proposed changes will not
adversely affect their patrons and business.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as
follows:
To support AC Ttransit in relocating the transit lines that are currently traveling along West
Juana between East 14th Street and Hays Street to other streets designed to carry transit vehicle loads.
