City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: November 19, 2018 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:18-535 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.H. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Jeff Kay <br />City Manager <br />BY:Jeff Tudor <br />Chief of Police <br />FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE:Staff Report for a City of San Leandro City Council Resolution to Appropriate <br />$93,000 in Supplemental Law Enforcement Funds (“Frontline”) for Police <br />Equipment and Projects in FY 2018-19 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve a resolution to appropriate Supplemental Law <br />Enforcement Services (SLESF) funds from the fund balance in order to purchase necessary <br />police equipment and fund projects in Fiscal Year 2018-19. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Every year, the Police Department receives approximately $150,000 in state grant funding <br />specifically designated for frontline law enforcement activities and equipment. The Police <br />Department provides below, certain equipment and employee wellness projects it seeks to fund <br />with money from the SLESF Fund Balance. The projects below all comply with the grant <br />requirements related to the use of these special funds. <br />Services Funding <br />1.$25,000 to continue the department’s wellness initiatives to help mitigate job-related <br />injuries and promote healthier living; <br />2.$3,000 to send staff to the Crisis Intervention National Conference in Dallas, Texas; <br />3.$10,000 to send a Police Captain to the Cal-Chief’s Leadership Development course; <br />$38,000 Service-related appropriation requested <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 11/13/2018
