City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: June 6, 2022 <br />Presentation <br />Agenda Section:File Number:22-177 RECOGNITIONS <br />Agenda Number:2.b. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Fran Robustelli <br />City Manager <br />BY:City Council <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:Proclaiming June as Pride Month in San Leandro <br />June 2022 as Pride Month in San Leandro <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro cherishes the value and dignity of each person and appreciates the <br />importance of equality and freedom; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro denounces prejudice and unfair discrimination based on age, <br />gender identity, gender expression, race, color, religion, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical <br />attributes as an affront to our fundamental principles; and <br />WHEREAS, Pride month began in June of 1969 on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in <br />New York City; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro appreciates the cultural, civic, and economic contributions of the <br />LGBTQ+ community, all of whom strengthen our community and enrichen its diversity; and <br />WHEREAS, many LGBTQ+ residents have provided decades of hard work to organize their <br />communities by making many sacrifices to pave the way for the civil rights we enjoy today; and <br />WHEREAS, for 28 years, the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay have been at the forefront in providing <br />advocacy and education to promote broader understanding of diversity; and <br />WHEREAS it is imperative that everyone in our community, regardless of sexual orientation or gender <br />identity or expression, feel valued, safe, empowered, and supported by their peers and community leaders. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San <br />Leandro, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2022 as “PRIDE MONTH” in San Leandro. <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to <br />be affixed this 6th day of June 2022. <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 6/1/2022
