City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: June 21, 2022 <br />Presentation <br />Agenda Section:File Number:22-157 RECOGNITIONS <br />Agenda Number:2.b. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Fran Robustelli <br />City Manager <br />BY:City Council <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:Proclaiming June 25 - July 1, 2022 as Boys and Girls Club Week in San Leandro <br />June 25 - July 1, 2022, as National Boys and Girls Club Week <br />WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs of America began in Hartford, Connecticut in 1860, with character <br />development at the cornerstone of the experience; and <br />WHEREAS, June 25-July 1 is designated as National Boys and Girls Club Week; and <br />WHEREAS, many of the week’s celebrations will focus on the Boys and Girls Clubs’ ability to provide safe <br />places, academic support, workforce readiness, and health and wellness programs for their participants; and <br />WHEREAS, the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those who need <br />them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the vision of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to ensure success is within reach of every participant, <br />with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrate good character and <br />citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle; and <br />WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs of America support all youth and teens - of every race, ethnicity, gender, <br />gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion - in reaching their full potential; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys Club was established in 1947 at St. Leander’s Church and changed to the <br />Boys and Girls Club in 1991. They are celebrating their 75th year anniversary this year; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club currently employs over 50 employees, serves 13 schools <br />in our local school districts, serves over 2,500 youth annually, and is truly a community partner. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim June <br />25 - July 1, 2022, as National Boys and Girls Club Week in recognition of the tremendously positive impact they have <br />had on the San Leandro community. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand <br />and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be <br />affixed this 21st day of June 2022 <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 6/15/2022
