City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: April 3, 2023 <br />Agenda Number: 3.b. <br />Agenda Section: RECOGNITIONS <br />File Number: 23-130 <br />File Type: Presentation <br />Proclamation to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Deadrich Real Estate <br />WHEREAS, Deadrich Real Estate celebrates their 100th Anniversary as a business serving San Leandro, <br />Oakland, Castro Velley, Alameda, and San Lorenzo; and <br />WHEREAS, Deadrich Real Estate was founded in 1923 by John A. Deadrich, Junior with a philosophy of <br />being firmly rooted in local area knowledge, excellent service, professional representation, through follow <br />through and unwavering integrity; and <br />WHEREAS, John A. Deadrich Junior was a charter member and Past President of the Rotary Club and <br />served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1940; and <br />WHEREAS, the business was taken over by John Deadrich III from 1948 until 1985 when he passed <br />away; and <br />WHEREAS, John Deadrich III served in the Lions Club before World War II, was the President of the <br />Chamber of Commerce in 1960, and started the Southern Alameda County Board of Realtors, which is now <br />known as Bay East Association of Realtors; and <br />WHEREAS, when John Deadrich III owned the company, Deadrich Real Estate lost business because of <br />their commitment to represent all people in the community, including people of color; and <br />WHEREAS, Henry and Joanne Deadrich took over the business in 1985, and Hank has served in and is a <br />Past President of the Kiwanis Club, was a founding member of the San Leandro Scholarship Foundation, and <br />was President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1988; and <br /> WHEREAS, Joanne taught in San Leandro schools, served as the March of Dimes Chairperson for years, and <br />served on the Board of the Directors of Girls Incorporated of San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, Hank and Joanne Deadrich have immersed themselves in the San Leandro Community and <br />culture in so many ways always willing to lend a hand; and <br />WHEREAS, Hank and Joanne’s daughter, Melissa, who is a graduate of Mills College and works as a <br />Regional Vice President for California Bank of Trust, plans to take over and continue the business; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan González III, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim the <br />celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Deadrich Real Estate. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and <br />caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be affixed <br />this 3rd day of April 2023. <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 3/30/2023
