City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: June 5, 2023 <br />Agenda Number: 3.c. <br />Agenda Section: RECOGNITIONS <br />File Number: 23-267 <br />File Type: Presentation <br />June 2023 as Pride Month in San Leandro <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro cherishes the value and dignity of each person and appreciates the <br />importance of equality and freedom; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro denounces prejudice and unfair discrimination based on age, gender <br />identity, gender expression, race, color, religion, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical <br />attributes as an affront to our fundamental principles; and <br />WHEREAS, Pride month began in June of 1969 on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New <br />York City; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro appreciates the cultural, civic, and economic contributions of the LGBTQ + <br />community, all of whom strengthen our community and enrichen its diversity; and <br />WHEREAS, many LGBTQ+ residents have provided decades of hard work to organize their communities by <br />making many sacrifices to pave the way for the civil rights we enjoy today; and <br />WHEREAS, for 29 years, the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay have been at the forefront in providing advocacy <br />and education to promote broader understanding of diversity; and <br />WHEREAS it is imperative that everyone in our community, regardless of sexual orientation or gender <br />identity or expression, feel valued, safe, empowered, and supported by their peers and community leaders. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Juan Gonzalez, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim <br />the month of June 2023 as “PRIDE MONTH” in San Leandro. <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and <br />caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be affixed this <br />5th day of June 2023. <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 5/31/2023
